Getting Started with Tascent M6

Overview

The Tascent M6 provides users with iris, face, fingerprint, voice, and context capture capabilities in a portable form factor. With the world’s leading smartphone, iPhone 6 or 6s, the Tascent Mobile App provides an easy and intuitive interface to create new subject records, browse existing databases, and configure settings to fit custom applications. The information below provides basic instructions on how to get started with the Tascent M6 device and Mobile App. For more in-depth instructions, see the Tascent M6 Device Usage Guide and the Tascent Mobile App Usage Guide.


Turning on the Device

To power on the device, press the power button on the back of the device for 1 second. Then select the Tascent Mobile App icon to launch the login screen. Enter the username and password, then select [Login].

Fingerprint Capture 

  1. Select [Fingerprint] on the app home screen. The app will then indicate which hand and finger(s) to capture.

  2. Flip the device over to capture. LEDs above the fingerprint sensor indicate the mode of capture. LED 1 blinking indicates “single fingerprint” is ready to capture. LED 1 + LED 2 blinking indicate “dual fingerprint” is ready to capture.

  3. Ensure Subject is properly touching both fingerprint platen and conductive bezel. LEDs will blink fast 4 times and shutter will sound when prints are successfully captured. 

  4. On the review screen, tap the hands icon  to recapture or [Save] to continue. After all prints have been saved, select [Done] in the upper right hand corner.

Iris Capture

  1. Select [Iris] on the app home screen. Iris Capture screen will appear. 

  2. Use one or two hands to capture (typical standoff is 10 inches). Position target so that both irises are well-centered. Follow the on-screen directions to achieve proper distance and device will automatically capture.

  3. On the review screen, tap the camera icon    in the lower left to recapture, or tap [Done] in the upper right to save image.


Face Capture 

  1. Select [Face] on the app home screen. Face Capture screen will appear.

  2. Use one or two hands to capture (typical standoff is 20+ inches). Position target so that face is well-centered. Follow the on-screen directions to achieve proper distance and device will automatically capture. (Select [Force Capture] to manually capture if device fails to auto-capture.)

  3. On the review screen, tap the camera icon    in the lower left to recapture, or tap [Done] in the upper right to save image.


Biographic Capture 

Tap [Biographic Info] on the app home screen and input biographic data. Only first and last name are required. Select [Done] to save.

Submitting Files

To submit files, tap [Done] in the upper right hand corner of the app home screen then tap [Send]. To clear captured data, select [Reset].

Cleaning and Care 

Exterior Plastics & iPhone Screen Protector:
Occasional cleaning of the exterior can be performed using a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Use care not to scratch the iPhone screen protector.

iSight Camera and Flash Cover:
Clean the lens using a microfiber cloth and isopropyl alcohol. A long cotton swab or similar can be used to guide the microfiber into the recess. Ensure that both the inside and outside of this lens are clean.

Fingerprint Sensor:
1.  Use a water-moistened rag to remove dirt and debris.
2.  Mild soap or detergent may be used for stubborn dirt and grime.
3.  Alcohol and alcohol-based cleaning solutions may stain if allowed to remain on the platen.
4.  Wipe alcohol products from the platen and clean using a water-based solution.
